Find your inner Dewey Decimal Class Number

Spacefem writes: “This quiz will convert your name to a class listed in the Dewey Decimal Classification system. That’s right. There’s no reason you can’t be classified, albeit randomly, just like a library book. Libraries are freaking awesome and we all need to read more, so there. Somewhere between 000 (Generalities) and 999 (Extraterrestrial worlds), you have a place.”...

Edie Lane Crook's Dewey Decimal Section:

870 Italic literatures; Latin literature

Edie Lane Crook's birthday: 9/06/1964 = 906+1964 = 2870

What it says about you:
You're a global, worldly person who wants to make a big impact with your actions. You have a lot to tell people and you're good at making unique observations about everyday experiences. You can notice and remember details that other people think aren't important.

Helpful Sites for the Presidential Election Year!

Hello!

Having the students participate in the voting process for the NC Children's Book Award allows the students an opportunity to express their opinion and cast a vote for their favorite book. This election year is a great time to utilize the following resources and educate the children on the election of the President. Of course, the sites below only scratch the surface.

Our library has great resouces available to offer varied approaches to information - books, magazines - especially Cobblestone, etc.

Great collaboration opportunity! Let's get started!

Word Cloud of My Blog

Good morning!
I've seen these a lot but never knew about them - until now. WORDLE is a tool for generating 'word clouds' from text that you provide. I typed in the URL of this blog and generated this word cloud.
The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can change your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes.
Students in a class could create a Wordle of their favorite food, sport, subject, etc. You get the idea! A fun and creative tool! Enjoy!
PS One Wordle wasn't enough for me so I created one by typing in words - I typed straight line on one row but it did not place the two together.... more trials to come!

Animoto of Pictures from Martha's Wedding

Your students will love putting together pictures to create a video through the creative technology of ANIMOTO.

It's simple to create an account but it will take more than a few minutes to upload the pictures, etc. Be sure to use the CTRL key to select the pictures all at once.

I really liked that when adding the music, if it was from your computer and not from their library, that ANIMOTO asked if you were approved to use the song.

Try it out.

Jing - What do you think it is? Does?

What a creative name for this still developing project.
The designers are still seeking feedback regarding Jing.
Jing captures still images or video that you choose. I captured a picture of my blog. You can add arrows, text, boxes, etc. This technology allows you to communicate by showing someone what you are talking about. The Jing sun allows you access to Jing and it can be placed on the edge of your computer screen - truly different!

Here's the link JING LINK Downloading took a while but it was worth it. Isn't it neat to give feedback on developing technology?
Happy tech!

Hi! A challenge is issued to each visitor!

Check out the website below. You have 10 minutes to name all 50 states. As you enter them in a window, the states are put in alphabetical order.

The only catch for students will be if the state is spelled incorrectly, it doesn't accept the answer. However, we all need to learn to spell!

Test your knowledge now!

50 states in 10 minutes

Good luck - feel free to post your results.
