Internet Safety

The internet opens a new dynamic to teaching and learning. Along with copyright and fair use, we must teach the students the importance of internet safety. Great links are below:

Cyber Smart Free Student Curriculum

NCDPI Internet Safety Resources

Free Seminar in Raleigh on Internet Safety August 5th

The Cyber Smart also has a free downloadable toolbar. A 2 minute video highlights the benefits. Definitely worth a look.

The S, M, A, R, and T stand for Safety, Manners, Advetising, Research, and Technology. The images on the PDF activity sheets for downloading could be a bit more high tech, but your students will not care about that. Also comes with sheets for parents!

Copyright and Fair Use

It's important that as educators we model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use as it applies to copyright and fair use.

This Powerpoint of Copyright and Fair Use I created is a great introduction to the topic.

What is hindering you from using technology in the classroom?

Podcasting for Teaching and Learning

Two great articles that discuss the benefits of differentiated instruction of students when technology is used in the classroom are:

Boling, E., Castek, J., Zawilinski, L., Barton, K., & Nierlich, T. (2008). Collaborative literacy: Blogs and internet projects. Reading Teacher, 61(6), 504-506.
